How the budget calculator does calculations...
The budget calculator is designed to help you make estimates of your income. An estimate is not accurate but a very good guess. It gives you a rough idea of how much money you have. If the amount of money you get and the amount of money you owe are very similar, you will have to calculate a more accurate figure.
To estimate how much you get a week you may have to round your pay per hour to an easier number.
If you earn £8.91 an hour, you would estimate this at £9. If you worked 21 hours in a week, you would estimate this at 20 hours. An easy way to work out how much you get a week is to multiply 9 by 10, which is 90 twice, giving a figure of £180. (9 x 10 = 90) (90 x 2 = 180)
If your rent is £48 you would estimate this at £50, and if you put £6 on your electricity key you would estimate this at £5. This means you would owe £55. (50 + 5 = 55)
The calculator assumes a week has 7 days and the length of a month is the average number of days in a month. (365 ÷ 12 = 30.42)
It isn’t perfect but it is quick!
